Have you ever thought about teaching your dog a trick? If so, read on, because teaching our dogs tricks can certainly be very enjoyable.
Spending quality time with your dog is always a great thing, as that is how relationships deepen. Interestingly, it can even make your dog more patient and more obedient in the long run.
First things first: Teaching your dog tricks should be enjoyable for both of you. So you must be patient to, as to not make your dog anxious or nervous.
Being calm and relaxed is the way to go. Also get a feeling for whether or not your dog actually enjoys performing the trick. Of, for some reason, he does not, just teach him a different one.
So, how can you teach the trick “Spin”? First, position yourself so that your dog is standing in front of you, looking at you. Then display the treat that you are holding in your hand.
Try to keep your dog’s attention on the treat, which should be easy. Say the command “spin,” and then move the treat in front of your dog’s nose and in a big circle. Of course, your dog will follow the treat and spin. Make him repeat this motion twice.
And then, of course, after your dog performed the trick, give him the treat. This will increase his motivation to do so again.
After your dog was able to successfully spin around a couple of times, hold the treat in front of him but don’t guide your dog this time. If you see that your dog is able to turn around without your help, you can then give them the treat.
So that’s that. If you can come up with the patience to teach your dog this trick, you will both enjoy it and have a great time. Just do not expect too much all at once. As with any kind of dog training, it will take time and, most importantly, persistence. So keep at it.
